Why? He's got a perfectly good original motor.

Default restoration engine

what scares me.
verify the engine number!
either I'm a reboring.
I change the Crankshaft
I changed the Camshaft
I changed the piston size (depending on reboring)
I change the distribution
Is this it??

A few years back, I had the same situation and
1. Did a mild porting and port matching job on heads
2. Installed a Crane 272 cam
3. Installed an Edelbrock Performer 2101 intake
4. Installed an X crossover
5. Installed Edelbrock RPM Mufflers
6. Rebuilt the Q-Jet

This work yielded almost 300 hp.

Add Trick Flow heads for another 40HP

Add Headers for another 20HP

This is an interesting thread, as I am considering rebuilding my #'s matching 72 350. I want mid-400's hp and torque. Wondering if thats possible. I'm told the block can be decked without losing the numbers...

Will probably be selling my ZZ4 if I can build my old original motor to acceptable hp/torque...

You know first he has to read the law. It can't say it has to have the original block. What happens if the block is damaged and unrepairable, like a rod thru the cylinder wall or whatever. Does than mean your car is now not allowed to be licensed and is scrap metal ?

You will need at least a 383 with a very good cam and induction system.

Actually I don't believe that people in Belgium can't change their engine. It's true that in Europe there are very strict laws in everything what comes to emissions. That's why people can't use much bigger engines than the original ones are but sure they can replace them. For example you may need a 'permission' from local authorities if you want to upgrade your engine from original 350cid to 502cid Merlin etc.

Find out from local car freaks how the law goes.

Then he can bag his motor and use another block or rebuild his motor and get 500HP out of it and it will look completely stock on the outside, no way to tell it's a 383, 396 or 408ci motor unless they take it apart. He doesn't really have a problem at all other than spending money

Back in 1996 Corvette Fever Mag did an upgrade to the L48 motor and gained 150hp while keeping a completely stock appearence. To do this they reworker the heads, added flat-top pistons, and a Crane Cam among other things. The finale results was a motor that still would pass any judged event with over 300HP.
I have a copy of the article if anyone would like to see it.

Hey, im also from belgium and i also have a 76 L48!
Good to know im not the only one there!
Let me know if you find a solution, i would also love to get a bit more power from mine but the parts are hard to get around here...
Do you do all the work yourself or did you find a garage you could trust?

Thanks

Charles

Go over to VetteMod forum and get ahold of Marck (Twin Turbo) on that forum. I believe he has a shop in the Netherlands where you can be best directed to make the changes you are looking to do.

You should be in good company with him. Good luck.
