From what i have heard, you can use any Dana 44 gears. You dont have to buy "corvette" gears, so you will pay less. Many companies carry dana 44 gears, like DTS or jegs/summit.
Use the "Search" feature and you will find LOTs of gear related topics. Here is an old thread of mine from the archives. I have completed setup of the 3.73:1 gears in my DANA 44 http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=193247
Rear end rebuild kit 80-82 PN# 5542 ($89) http://www.bairs.com
SPICER DANA ring and pinion, 3.73:1 ($141) http://www.tomsdifferentials.com
4 - GM gear lube PN#1052271 ($5.10 each)
1 - GM additive PN#1052358 ($5.03)
1 - GM Gear Marking Compound PN#1052351 ($3.38)
1 - 12 pack of beer ($10.00)
or will i not need all of it?
Basically, you will need all of those items. Some people use more beer than others and some need none at all.
Seriously, There are numerous brands and vendors that can be substitued and my list didn't include parts to rebuild/replace the clutch pack in the carrier. I didn't feel like I needed to replace mine and I worried that I wouldn't be able to do it without having the correct tools.
Speaking of tools, be sure that you have access to at least those listed in my thread. I built my own fixture for holding the differential housing on an engine stand. I think it would be tough to do the job without some type of supporting fixture.
This was my first attempt at a gear swap and I have not had the opportunity to road test it yet to be absolutely sure that I was successful but all perliminary indications (measurements) tell me that it is going to be OK. There are many forum members that have done this job several times and they will likely provide guidance when you actually begin the job.
