My mirror is starting to show some black spots on the glass part of the mirror. How do I fix that?....or should I replace it? If I need to replace it, where do I get a mirror with the map light?
The glass is not a flat mirror, it is a prism (with the tilting lever at the bottom). I have not replaced mine yet, but it is not something that a glass shop can replace, you will need to order a correct replacement from a Corvette parts supplier. I think that they do two sizes, 8" and 10" so measure it and see which you have. They cost about US$48 if i remember correctly.

Thanks for the tip. I found the replacement mirror on Corvette Central's website. Is it difficult to replace the glass? I can remove the mirror assembly from the car, but how do you remove the actual mirror (glass)? I've read that, for outside mirrors, you can soak it overnight in gasoline and the mirror comes right off.....I have a map light, so that procedure is out. Any suggestions?
I used a heat gun to remove the glass, placing the heat on the center area only. Took the new one to a auto glass shop to have them re-glue in the new one, cost me $10 bucks. That was 5 years ago no issues yet. good luck
Having same issue with '79 mirror and need to replace/or re-silver-plate mirror glass (I have re-plated mirror glass successfully before). Before I heat up I need to know whether the mirror glass is glued in some backing surface, and whether it is possible to remove it without braking it !
Also when putting back in, do I need to heat-up or does it snuggly click-in...
Anyone done it on a 10'' '79?
Anyone have a Photo of a certified original GM '79Early 10'' inside mirror ? (not replacement/reproduction, etc). No originals in all Corv.Parts Shops I' ve looked up so far and eBay is full of wrong descriptions...
thanks
