According to mortec.com:

3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4

On the passenger side on the front should be a pad with numbers and letters, that will identify the vehicle and factory if I'm not mistaken.

The engine could have come from just about any GM vehicle built in the above time frame.

The info from the stamp pad is required to narrow it down.

You should see a Vin# followed by a Suffix # on the right side front pad. It may be painted over, so to read the numbers you will most likely need to remove same. It sounds as if you know this is not the original engine...regardless, one of the below suffix's should be present (for a 69 small block). If there are No numbers on the pad, the block has been decked (re-machined) at some point in time. Hope this help's....

GC: 350ci, 300hp MT
GD: 350ci, 300hp MT
HW: 350ci, 300hp MT
HX: 350ci, 350hp MT
HY: 350ci, 300hp MT
HZ: 350ci, 300hp AT

Yes i know there is not the correct engine for the car its in. Bur there has been years since i read the corvette books and i was 100 % sure it was a 69 Corvette engine.

I wil have a better look at the engine where you told me to look.
Thanks a lot

This block, 3970010 is used in Corvettes, from 1968 - 1980.

That's true, but it was used in every other type of Chev truck and car too. It's not a Corvette-only casting number.
