You could also use the factory iron spreadbore intakes but they don't have the plenum volume of the LT-1 so if you were looking for more top-end power you might have to use a spacer to pump it up.
Just so there's no confusion - this intake wasn't avaible at the time; it's a new thing and as noted could be used to build a modern version of the venerable LT-1.
I'm comming to the conclusion that every small block powered Vette from 70-71 was "an LT-1" powered car, it's just that some had auto transmissions and Quadrajets swapped onto them at later dates. I must have been really expensive to do the conversion especially the new fuel line installations/tach conversions/hood swaps/differential changeouts so, all these cars are INCREDIBLE BARGINS considering all the work that was done on them after they were sold.

Ya … that’s the ticket! A base model clone done to lower insurance rates

I was on eBay the other day and three new LT-1s were listed within 24 hours, one of which was a 72 A/C car. I think at that time there were 3 A/C LT-1s listed. I guess Muddy's must be a fake as the other 240 have been listed on eBay over the past year
I wish us poor owners of the low HP 72 LT-1 Vettes would get some consideration in pricing guides for our "L" in our VIN#'s but since we have to make due with only 255HP, I guess we'll never get any respect just like Rodney
Those experts don't even know that 71-72 motors are the EXACT same motor just SAE "net" ratings instead of the "gross" 71 HP figures.
I really do admire Muddy's Vette, he did an AWESOME job of restoring that car. I'm glad he had his "plain" rally wheels on during Corvette Spectacular car show last year, I think I won by a set of "Torque Thrusts" over Don's Vette.

I've always told him that if the car goes missing, he should probably look no further than my driveway.

There was one LT-1 base model convertible with automatic and a/c. A supervisor who intended to buy the car had one made and stamped the LT-1 engine as a base engine and had it installed. He installed base engine components and sent it down the line.
He made a mistake not installing an LT-1 80 lb. oil pressure gauge in place of a base 60 lb. gauge. By coincidence the plant engineer took the car on a routine overnight test drive and the oil pressure gauge buried the needle. He immediately shut the engine off for investigation what the problem was.
Investigation showed what had happened and the supervisor was dismissed and a correct engine installed in the Corvette.
Wonder what ever happened to that mismarked LT-1 engine? If, by coincidence one was discovered, could more have been built that weren't discovered?
