I've already got CompCams 1.450 springs. I just got Crane Cams retainers. But they look TOO DAMN small. This is what jegs says.
270-99914-16
7° Steel Retainers 11/32''
Special Applications:
Chevrolet SOHC 2300cc I-4
Valve Stem Diameter: 11/32''
Spring Outer Diameter: 1.225'' to 1.500'' Single or Dual Spring
Height Comparison: .000''
(Height comparison is used to compare the installed height of one Crane Cam retainer to another, and uses #270-99914-16 as a starting point of .000. All other Crane retainers are either the same height, taller or shorter).
They just look much smaller than my springs. But, I can't compare until tomorrow. It's just bugging me. What do you guys think??
Important note on most '73-'77 L48 engines:
Valve springs are different sizes!
For what ever reason (and your Haynes manual doesn't mention this, nor will most auto parts store ordering manuals/computers) the exhaust valve springs are shorter than the intake valve springs.
All auto parts stores will sell you the standard chevy 350 intake valve springs that are 2.03 inches long, but only buy eight. The other eight exhaust valve springs are only about 1 15/16" long, and are unique under GM part number 6263796. I got my exhaust valve springs through Brasington in Gainsveille, FL.
All kiinds of bad things will happen if you use the wrong length valve springs.
Re: Help. Spring retainers/sping size. (Pete79L82)
I've got decked 882 heads. Machinged spring seats. Bronze guides. Manley SS valves (there all the same height) 940-16 springs. I've got all the measures if you need them. and I mean ALLL the measurements.
