OK, I'll rephrase to see if I can get a couple more responses!
Are there any companies out there who remanufacture quadrajets without ruining them? Has anyone else had any good experiences with an affordable remanufactered carb and if so, which companies?
I'd love to find a good used 750 q-jet and ship it to Lars, but he's no longer doing mail order rebuilds and anyway it's very difficult to find a decent unmolested unit set up for a BB '71 Vette.
Thanks!

I have read Lars' paper which warns about the problems one might encounter after purchasing a remanufactured carb, and I hear him loud and clear. However, I've found it difficult to locate the correct carb for my '71 LS5 BB 4-speed car.
Does anyone have any experiences to share, good or bad, with Corvette Central's remanufactured Quadrajets?
The prices certainly seem reasonable.
Thanks in advance for any responses and HNY!

Reason: too long!
I know it will add cost to the project but have you considered getting a remanufactured carb that 'looks' right and is of the right type for your car and then sending it of to Lars to give it a once over before you fit it?
However, I've found it difficult to locate the correct carb for my '71 LS5 BB 4-speed car.
I had just as much trouble finding a 7042217 for my manual trans '72 LS-5 and the ones I did find were all over $1K to slightly under $1.5K. So I found a '73 LS-4 manual trans carburetor and asked Lars about using it in my '72.
He said it would be a good choice and perform well on my engine. I only paid $99 for it with a few pieces missing that Lars said he could replace and I was extremely fortunate that Lars was still doing carburetor rebuilds.
It works so well I hope I never have to touch it again.
That would be my suggestion is find yourself one from another year or model that will work well on your car. Chevelles and Monte Carlos both had 454's in them.

BTW, there are a few others on this forum who have had positive reports about their carburetor rebuilds. A1Sensei comes to mind.

I purchased a "Jet Performance" stage 2 rebuilt q-jet 750 carb from Jegs for my 79, L-82 with electric choke a couple of years ago. It has worked well for me. Good acceleration off of idle and easy to adjust.
My carb originally cam from corvette central many year back it was the correct card for my 70. Car always ran like crap. I sent it to Lars and he sent me back a laundry list of items wrong with the carb. From vents being plugs to competly wrong jets. He did his magic on it and the car never ran better

Bally, how about this one on ebay? It's bound to be a better rebuild candidate than any aftermarket carburetor.
I know this is already an old thread, but I just wanted to thank everyone who offered advice. I am going to start looking for a carb in earnest this week, as daily life had interfered and caused delays in completing what's truly important:
Getting the Vette ready for Spring!!!
