Default Window drops???

Haven't looked into yet, as I've got another project going on in my garage, but wondering if anyone has some info to share... passenger-side window (power) goes all the way up, but then drops about 1/2" or so. With the window at any other height, I don't get any vertical movement if I try to lift or lower manually, but when it's at the top, it wants to drop.

Does this seem like a window motor or regulator gear issue (as in worn/missing teeth)? It does make it to the top though, just doesn't want to stay there!!!

Thanks

Either bad teeth at the top, or the big wind up spring is broken. Both common problems.

Bad gears at top, if you take the power window unit out you will see that the top two or three gears are warn enough so the gear on the motor will not mesh. Replacement gears are available for around $30-$ 40 per side .If you do one side ,you may as well do the other side.
Not an easy job to do, you need really small hands to work inside the window and most of the time you are working blind and by touch. Not the most challenging job , but on a scale of 1-10 it's about a 6 and I have small hands.
Number #4 body mount is a 10 !!!!
Good luck

Your problem is more than likely the regulator gear and you may want to check the motor gear. When the gear wears out, it will do exactly what you described. The issue is if the regulator gets to bad it will eat up the motor drive gear too.

Check both and then when you have the regulator out of the car be sure to lubricate and check the rollers.

Parts to rebuild the regulators are available, and there are two choices on the regulator should you choose to replace it. There are US made regulators and there are imported regulators.

Thanks for all the info and the links... I'll hopefully be gettin' to this repair over the next week or so, when I can bring her into the garage and out of this friggin' cold weather (YES, 37* is mighty cold for us Floridians!!!)
