I just bypassed my heater to avoid tearing the dash out. Whenever I take somting apart on this car I end up rebuilding/ replacing everything. Plus I only drive in warm weather. If I can't drive with tops off I don't drive it.

I live in Colorado and this car is my daily driver. Not always an option to go tops off although I do enjoy that! I am out fighting with the other cars in blizzards and snowy weeks but since it is a manual I can control it quite gracefully on my usual routes in the snow! Chevy made a good car, but I have 36 years of neglect to sort through. P/o left it sitting in the garage for 11 yrs, never started and never pumped brakes. Mice chewed up all the insulation under dash and made a nest at the heater core. Just recently got in the project that cleaned this out, split the cases on the heater box, ripped out all original insulation, new insulation and carpet, and all duct work cleaned out rigorously. My blower motor blows the smell of sweet cleaner at me now through the ducts, not rat stink!!!
That very thoroughly documented thread was posted on December 4, 2009. If people would just check the Archives then the questions that keep coming up ad naseum would largely disappear.
Thanks, its embarrassing to be driving down the road in my c3 wearing two coats, heavy hat and gloves and still shivering while other people are in their cars in t-shirts. not to mention that I have to keep using my ice scraper on the inside of the front windshield to see!!!! I am getting right on this project as it seems I pretty much have already done it (splitting the heater case) but this time a new core is going in!
