Default engine help

So I pulled the old 350 out of my 79 and I want to get her running again soon! I need some advice on an engine though. I am looking to spend about $2000-2500 on the motor, and shooting for 320hp and up. I can either get an ebay crate like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...item19b95468c0
for 1900 shipped and call it a day. Or I have seen other companies listing 383's for $2400 without valve covers and a few other items. Also I can rebuild my old block and get new heads, but local machine shops are charging about $1500 for a 383 bottom end. I would like to get the $1900 motor so I can get the car running but am I going to regret it?
Any info and advice is much appreciated I respect your guys opinions

You have to be really careful in buying motors off that site. They use very cheaply made parts ( usually Chinese) and they just don't last. I am sure there are a couple of reputable builders, but you really have to seek them out. There are many Vette owners/builders on this site with motors for sale. I would look into the Parts For Sale section here on the Forum first. $1,900 is awfully cheap for a newly built motor. If that's all the power you want look into a motor from Jeg's or Summit Racing. Jeg's has a big sale on motors on their site now.

My 2 cents.

$1900 is probably too cheap for a quality engine. If you can get your shortblock built into a 383 for $1500, that would leave enough to get some good heads. That's the way I would go.

X2 most big companies use the cheapest part available and just scew them together and some times it can be a crap shoot.

Good luck which ever way you go.

Yep. I spent the better part of $5,000 on my build, and that was a few years ago.

I agree with everyone else, you should just rebuild your engine this way you'll know what you have.

Yea I think you guys are right that price is too low. Even with the 1 year warranty they offer it will probably blow at 14 months. Is there any way to tell if they use chinese parts? the 2400 dollar 383 longblock has a 7 year warranty...

If warranty is important to you stay local! If you do not have the skill set to rebuild your existing engine find a local shop.
