My 69 had original gears but whined when i let off the gas. So i pulled it out and had a friend go through it and replaced the bearings and new gears from YUKON. I put it back in and then it was very very niosy when ever i gave it any gas from about 40 mph on. After about 200 miles i pulled it out again and had a diffrent guy reset it. It is alittle quieter but not much. I think it was set up wrong and ruined the gears. I have heard that all after market gears will be much noiser than the gm gears. I would like to get this fixed once and be done with it. What do you suggest? New gm gears are not available. I do have the original gears that look good . THANKS PLEASE HELP
put a bottle of this in and live happily ever after. aftermarket gears can be noisy yes but some worse then others. i put motive gears in my vet with good results ...but thats using the gm additive. without it im not so sure if i would still be smiling.
If a set of gears are noisy in a differential, and they are run for very long that way, you may never get them to be quiet.
That may be what happened to you with your current set. Your original gears may have the same issue if you try to reuse them.
I have never had an issue with noise from aftermarket gears, but any car that has gotten a gear change also had an exhaust that made a little noise so its possible that I just didnt hear any slight sounds.
If you decide to buy a new set of gears, the gears sold by Toms Differentials seem to be thought of highly. There are also several board members here that have bought from Duntov Motor Co that seem to be happy. Duntov sells more than one brand though.

It's most likely the gears that are the issue. I only sell and only use US Gear from Toms unless it's a 4:11 gear and they are from Richmond. I've tried Yukon gears before and had the same luck you did. I went through 3 set of 3:73's. Couldn't get a good pattern on 2 of them. Motive gears are another good gear manufacture as well. There are a couple other vendors as well that use US Gears as well. You may want to think about changing the bearings also. I know you just got them but all Yukon stuff is made in Korea. We sell Timken diff kits.
