Default Base 350 top end build

I don't seem to be making progress in this new roller cam business. Guess I'm too old and use to the simple days of flat tappet cams, but I digress......

I want to put a roller cam/rockers in my 350/300. I also want to put Aluminum heads (not the ones that use centerbolt valve covers). I have an automatic with a 3.08 rear so I'm not interested in a high rpm setup. In the old days I would just select a FT cam designed for 800-4000 (or so) rpm but they don't seem to advertising the rollers that way. All I'm looking for is bottom end grunt and an upgrade to the roller set-up so I don't have to worry about lobe wipeouts and in the process, pick up a few more hp. This should be a simple question so are there any simple answers .

Thanks - and I did do a bit of searching and looking around so don't :o flame me please

I would suggest calling Comp Cams and talking with their tech department. Or, any other cam maker. Give them your specs and they can get you where you want to go. I stayed with flat tappet. I am old school, but I do like rollers...just pricey. Bottle of ZDDP is $7.

Thanks - guess I'm looking at the Comp XR258HR
http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ry_Code=RFHRXE

Maybe the smart thing to do is just buy the whole kit?
Guess I might need different valve covers cause of the height - not too big of a deal but I wanted it to look stock.

Now onward to what head.

You may be able to use spacers to raise your stock valve covers. Maybe something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/STF-63900/

I just picked up a set of Edelbrock E-Street heads for my L-82. Very nice set of heads for the price. Investment castings. Much nicer than the import stuff for the same money. IMO.
