As I prepare for the swap. I was wondering if the C-4 alum. driveshaft would work in the conversion. The weight savings would be about 10 lbs. (guess) It measures 27 1/2" eye to eye, so it would need to cut down. I'm wondering if the yoke on the diff. side will match up? Did they switch u-joints in 84 or are they the same? These go for $10 to $20 bucks on ebay.
That's a great question Bud. E-mail me if you find out. I still need to get my driveshaft shortened, and would be interested in going to aluminum in the process ;) .
I guess I could go to the parts store and measure the u-joints. I'm not sure why the end shaft of the Dana 44 would be different that my 12 bolt.
Looks like they come in 27 1/2" for the 4+3 and 33" for the 700R4.
Steve-It's going great. Currently rebuilding the front end. New bushings, springs, shocks, etc. It was dancing all over the road, so I thought it was due.
Update, I called O'rellys tonight and both the 85 and 78 share the same u-joint. So, if you want to save some additional weight a lite weight 85-91 alum. driveshaft for the 700R4 can be used. I will get a price on shortening next.
