Forgive me, I am a C2 owner and know absolutely nothing about these newer cars, but a friend of mine bought an '82 last year, drove it very little and parked it for about 5 months and now it won't start. Starter cranks, but no fire. Is there a common problem to look for first? The fuel pump can be heard when key is turned to run position. Removed the air cleaner and dumped some fuel in it, and it burned that fuel, then quit. Thanks in advance. Next step, does anybody recommend a good shop somewhere in Palm Beach County, FL for an honest repair?
thanks for the quick replies, I just called my buddy and told him to run out to the barn and try pumping the accelerator twice, he just called me back and said it still wouldn't start. We haven't put a fuel pressure guage on yet, but that is next. I don't think there is any pressure, as there are no signs of fuel, no smell, nothing. But, if the pump is running, why? Where is the filter, I don't remember seeing it. Of course, these new cars are so cluttered compared to my '66. Thanks again.
Maybe you have air in the lines? Are you sure it's not empty? After I put a new filter in I had to pump the gas A good 5 times before I saw fuel in the sights on the carb.
Oh sorry I haven't been thinking. 82 is cross-fire injection so pumping the gas will do nothing. Fuel injection is very picky with the pressure. How did you dump gas into the fuel injection? I would check the pressure to rule out filters, bad pump, etc. So it starts when you dump the fuel in? That rules out ignition. If it's a crossfire issue make sure you find someone that knows theese systems well (not me).

If the 82 is siock it is cross fire fuel injected. All you do when you pump it is open the throttle plates. With the air cleaner off you should see the injectors squirt a couple time when you turn the key to on.
The fuel filter is behind the passenger front tire underneath the car on the frame. Their is a inline fuse by the battery and 2 in the fuse panel.
The fuel pump relay is behind the ECM in the battery compartment.
Even though you hear the pump dosen't mean it is actually putting fuel to the motor. I had a hose spilt on mine in the gas tank. The pump is under the filler neck and easy to change.
Do a search for the crossfire, there is a lot of dianostic info in the forum. Good luck in your adventure.
First, you must determine if you have fuel to the injectors. Crack open a line and make sure you have fuel to the rail.
Locate and check the fuel filter in the supply line before the injectors. Follow the fuel supply line back from the intake towards the fuel tank. Canister type filter at the heater blower position?
Theres a place in Jupiter that specializes in Corvettes. Cant remember the name. Do a Google search for Corvette repair in Jupiter and the name should pop up. Good luck. If that fails I know a guy up here in PSL.
Thanks for all of the advice. You guys are as good as the C1/C2 group. Will be at the NCRS event tomorrow, so won't get back to the 82 before Monday. Great info, and THANKS to all! Joe
