Default Another fuel pump/carb problem

I disconnected my fuel pressure regulator because I was having problems adjusting it. It ran fine for a day. Now the fuel pump gasket is leaking. I changed hoses just in case, but no it is the gasket. Runs fine just leaks after sitting a while. I took it down the road and it died on me. I kept having to really keep the peddle down at red lights to get home. I checked it out and the rear fuel bowl is completely full of gas and the front is halfway (where it should be). I got out my BG book and my Lars paper to adjust the float. It won't adjust. Bowl stays full.

Could this be because of the fuel pump? I don't figure it to be, but you never know. Any ideas from you fuel guys? It also got hot on me and it never gets hot. It has a new thermostat in it.

Thanks. ( I did order another pump).

With no regulator, what is the fuel pressure at the carb? I would think too much pressure would push past the needle/seat no matter what the float leval was set at?

Fuel pressure is sitting at 6-61/2 psi right now. You think maybe a blew out the needle and seat?

I had a similar problem with a 4150 Holley. Turned out the secondary needle was jammed with crud from the fuel line. I would check your carb for "stuff" jamming the needle off the seat of the secondary. Clean it out and reset the float level.
Cheers,
Pete

Not blew it out but just push fuel past it with too much pressure but you dont have too much pressure so junk in it like pete says may be the issue. Or a bad or binding float possibly?

Pull the needle and seat and blow / clean it out. 6.5psi may be a little high, the carb should handle that but for how long I would go back to the regulator and try and keep it around 5psi

I checked the fuel pressure gauge today and it sits 5 psi. I took the bowl apart and used carb cleaner on the needle and seat and cleaned the rest of the bowl. I am having a hard time adjusting the float. It just doesn't fill up to halfway yet. I will install the new pump tomorrow and see what it does. It just may be the pump is bad. ??? That doesn't sound right now that I think about it. The bad pump wouldn't affect the bowl. I am about ready to give up and rebuild the whole carb.
