The tach reads 2500 rpm at idle and pegs over about actual 2500 rpm. Can tach be tested with out the $60.00 printed circut replaced? Hate to try one when money can go to $250.00 new tach!
There is a little black cylinder with a clip on it, and a white wire out each end, that is the tach filter...it muct be fastened to the engine block for the electrical ground, and then in line to the tach post on the dizzy, then to the harness leading into the car....
IF that is missing, you will get any kind of screwey readings on your tach...
start there, fairly cheep even for a new one, I think, and can be built with common parts from Radio Shack....you can do a search here for the wiring schematic to build one....
