My oil pressure has become erratic. I used to have about 40 psi, but
now it can be anywhere from < 20 to mid 30's. When it's low it takes
a while and then jumps to the higher pressure. My oil level is fine
btw.
So how do you get low oil pressure - when the bypass valve is being used?
When the bypass valve is stuck open?
Should I be looking into getting a new oil pump? Or should I be looking at
cleaning out the oil and the pan - are those oil flush liquids worthwhile?
Ditto the sending unit check. On my '82 it's a little can looking thing screwed into the top-rear rail on the block, near the firewall. It can be seen in the upper left of this photo:
I've checked the oil level already and it's fine. I haven't checked
the connections. And by the looks of the position, it is a little
difficult to get at the position on the block. I tried getting at the
connector for the reverse lights which is back there.
The engine has too many miles on it - over 100k or more.
I'll check the connections. BTW, is the oil temperature sensor
replacable? Mine no longer works. What kind of voltage range does it
send out.
Any one replace these sensors before? What are their costs?
