Finishing up moderate restoration on '81 Red. Painted last year Viper Red. Finished stripping the aluminum and ready for polish. Finished all the black trim today. Now, any suggestions touching up the various tiny nicks in the red paint? I used to do it with cardboard matches.
Any other thoughts? Thanks Crew, Steve '81 Vette built in St. Louis.
I agree with Dannyman, many 'fills' with ample drying in between coats will get a better result. I have filled in rock chips, let thoroughly dry and then used very fine wet sand paper of 600 grit up to 1500 to smooth over. When it was polished it was not noticable.
A lot of touch up services do the same process. The secret with paint is to be patient. Let it dry, smooth and polish and it will make that awesome red colour look better.
The best method of we found to fill in was using a 'dagger' brush from an art store. This brush is made of camel hair and tapered to the very end with a very fine edge. Old pinstriper guys on the board will remember the days of Shure Shot paint, dagger brushes and surf music.
