Default Specific application C4 wheels on C3

As it's winter and the car is in storage I am asking your advice.

Car is a 75 currently running 15x8 in turbines with 255/60-15 rubber.

Due to the price (too cheap to pass up) I now have a set of base 93-96C4 sawblades. (17x8.5 Front, 17x9.5 rear).

I would like ot use them on the C3.

I believe max backspacing in the rear would be 4.5 inches. Am thinking 4 inch max in the front. SO...

The C4 fronts are 7" backspacing, the rears 7.5". Am I wrong in thinking to use 3 inch adapters both front and rear.

I want to use the New Sumitome HTRzIII as the reviews are quite good and the price even better. 255 40 17 front, 275 40 17 rear.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks,

George

You need a set of WHEEL ADAPTERS from VBP, sponsor here, 2.5" in the rear, and 2.25 in front,

I did that same thing with sawblades that were 9.5" wide on all 4 corners, back 15 years ago...

I currently have 17x9.5 '89 vette wheels on all 4 corners, just for a style change....same adapters...

the adapters cost me 250 bux for all 4 of them, back when....

in order to fit any 275 rubber back there, you will need to move the ebrake cable mount from next to the tire, to the top of the t-arm OR like I did to the inside of the rotor,

Really? 2.5 inch is all I'd need? Seems too little. Why am I thinking that? I would think the 2.5 would give a net BS of 5 inches on the 9.5 inch. I want to avoid offset t-arms. Do you have any problems with the fronts hitting the t-rods or the fenders at full lock?

Ditto the above I had the 88 Wheels 9.5 on back in 1988. I used 3'' in the Rear and didn't move the Parking Brake Cable with 275 tires. In the front you may or may not have to clearance the iner fender.

Okay, so I think I'm gonna do 3 inch front and rear. Need they be Hub centric?

I've posted pictures of my 73 and 74 in other threads like the "setting up my 74 for autocross" thread. You can see them there. I run the 16"X9.5" 84-87 style wheels w/3" adapters on mine to autocrss and don't have any problems except a little bit of rub on the fenders in front. You should have no probles with the sizes you want to run. I've run the same adapters from VB&P for the last 10 years. I do a lot of tire changes durring the autocross season, so they have been beat on pretty good. They are still like new.

I looked in one of VB&P catalogues and they reccomend the 2.75" (#13772) up front and 3.0" (#13773) in back.
Looking on their website prices are 2.75" - $199.99/pair and 3" - $209.99/pair.

I tried to keep the same wheel centerline to keep loading of the 1/2 shafts in rear down to a minimum/stock spec, the bearings in them t-arms in enough of a loading situation without increasing stresses there either....

you do not need offset arms, or bother with sway bars, it all clears, the width increase is only 3/4 inch PER SIDE.....8-9.5".....you get that much easy with moving that ebrake....

in front, you can use maybe 2" adapters, but it maybe close with steering radius...I"d go 2.25 and know it clears....

I clear 275/50/17 on rear just fine, in front it's 255/50/17....

REAR
5.0 inch back spacing on a 9.5 inch wheel sounds about perfect. That will push out the wheel 1/2 inch from stock. Perfect look IMHO.

Any less BS, and you'll have wheels sticking far out the fenders, which can be a sorry sight, and could attract unwanted attention from local law enforcement trying to make a name for themselves.

Any more BS, and you'll start to run into interference from the E-brake cable line or bracket.

Check Motorheads set-up, he has exactly this 9.5inch wheel with 5.0 inch BS using 285-40-R18s.

FRONT
8.5 rim I would try to set up 4.0BS and have 1/2 inch riding further out. Would look perfect IMHO. Might have issues at full turn lock with the rear of the fender being hit by the tire outer corner. Every car is slightly different though.

Have fun.

Yeah, I already hit in the front on the rear of the right front opening with the 255-60-15s on the car. Nothing a sawzall can't fix! (Flame suit on!)
