Default Tremec 5 speed? Choices????

I've heard a lot of decent things about this transmission T-5.I have a pretty basic 350 that isn't putting out more than 300hp. I don't have a lot of money but I really want a 5 speed trans. I've seen the marvelous tko-600 that I'd kill for but that is way out of price range. I was looking into getting a tremec out of a pick apart for about 150 dollars and getting the mods to make it fit in my 73. What parts would i need to do this? IE crossmember shifter mounts or whatever else there is clutch pedal ect. Is there a place that sells all this parts? Is there a better transmission for the same price? Opinions? I'm sure something like this has been done before.

Thanks so much for the help.

The car is currently a 350 with a auto behind it. The engine and tranny is out of the car. I'd want to attatch the manual tranny before I put the engine in so I wouldn't have to take it back out.

A few things.

A tremec from a pick a part (I assume this means bone yard/auto dismantler) would have to come from a mustang GT or cobra I think, I'm not fully up on what the tremec came in originally, except that GM doesnt use the tremec. So a ford tranny doesnt bolt to a GM car. The tremecs for GM cars are modified at the factory to make them fit. GM does use the T5 I believe in some camaro/firebird applications that others have adapted with success.

Other parts you will need -

Crossmember: the tremec is about the length of a 700r4 - so you will need a new crossmember for it. a crossmember designed for the tremec would be best as it may already make minor adjustments to the parking brake parts that are very close to the slip yoke (I had to relocate the parking brake wheel on my home grown install)

Driveshaft: the tremec being longer will require that you have your driveshaft shortened

Slip yoke: The tremec slip yoke is the same as a Ford C6 output you will need a break down yoke that allows the driveshaft to be disconnected from the yoke.

Shifter: the tremec uses an internal rail type shifter, you will either need to have the transmission modified to allow the shifter to offest (to properly work with the console) purchase a top mount shifter with the offset built in, or use the typical top mount shifter and modify the console to work with it. - in any case, you will be cutting a hole in the floor somewhere. and depending on the shifter you use, there may be some console modifications.

Pedals and linkage: Pedals obviously and all the required parts like the z-bar, pivot points on motor and frame as well as bellhousing, fork, flywheel, clutch etc...a fair amount of stuff.

Keisler provides an automatic/manual conversion kit, you might look into that kit to see what they provide, it should be a good list of parts you will have to source.

This should answer your T5 questions.

Fauxrs, I think he's referring to the Keisler Tremec transmissions which are designed to fit a Corvette.
