1981 Door Hinges
Who has the best price for door hinges? I am going to freshen up the paint and the aft part of both doors are chaffing the rear quarters. I will be changing both the pilot and copilot side hinges, any tricks to changing these out? Do I need to change both the upper and lowers for sagging doors or is changing the top sufficient?

You probably wont need to replace the entire hinge, just the pins and bushings. Should be able to get them at any GM dealer for under $10.00 for the whole car. It is best to do both the upper and lower hinges while you are at it.

You don't have to pull the dash to replace pins and bushings. The bottom pin you can drive out without doing anything except supporting the door. The top pin I was able to get out by removing the bolts on the door side if the hinge and letting the door drop down enough to clear the curve on the top of the door. The new pins are longer than they need to be. By cutting them to length it makes it a lot easier to get them back in. Have someone strong around to help you support the door as you do this. They are very heavy.
