I've read other posts saying that these headers require some massaging to fit. As you can see the frame is SRIII and it was built for side exhaust (reason for the longitudinal tube you see in the pics that contacts the #3 and #7 primary tubes). For reference, the passenger side fits fine. As it sits now, the rear of the header flange needs to come down approx 1/2" (a tad more for adequate clearance). This will require working the #3 primary (approx 1/2" to 5/8") on the bottom. Also, the #7 primary will need to move outboard approx 1/2" so the flange can mate properly with the head. Also, one pic shows that the steering shaft should clear fine.
My question: Would you massage, cut and reweld, or send for a new driver-side header and hope it fits better.
One point to note--the driveshaft is not connected to the diff yet. I haven't checked the angle, but adding small spacers to the trans crossmember/isolator would help quite a bit. At this point, the trans is just resting on the standard isolator which is resting on the SRIII mount.
I didn't have any fitment issues with Hookers on my '76. Not sure about with your particular frame and it may vary car to car. Your project looks fantastic!!!!
Thanks for the response. I've attempted to copy a CF link on driveshaft angles. Also, I connected my driveshaft in the afftached pics. The more I look at things, the more it seems like my problems will, at least be minimized, by raising the tailshaft. Also, my motor mounts are from Jegs "1963-82 General Motors Cars Black Zinc Finish 2-5/8 Width x 1-3/4 Height; Short and Wide Motor Mounts; part no. 3-1114G" The motor mount holes that accept the single frame bolts are oblong and allow a small amount of rotation. This might also allow me to raise the left side a small amount. I think I need to wait until the body is mounted, then adjust things one at a time before I do anything rash. Thoughts?
I had no issues with the instalation of my sidepipes, you may want to go back and look everything over. These headers are made specifically for theses cars from the stock engine location.
