Default Z bar frame mount

I have an 79 auto car. I was wanting to install a factory 4 speed. I am under the impression that everything is pretty easy except for dropping the steering wheel to install the foot pedals and adding the frame side Z bar mount to the frame. Anyone go through this?

Default Auto to 4-speed

I have done this switch twice, on a 73 and a 80. Some people say the pedals are a real bear to switch, but I had no problem. Just remove the steering column, pull the pin out and remove the brake pedal. The replacement brake and clutch pedal fit in the same bracket as the single auto pedal. As far as the z-bar frame bracket, you have 2 options. Buy one for a mid 70's c-3 and weld it on, or buy one for a 80 c-3 and bolt it on. The bolt on might be a little easier with the body on the car if you can get in to the frame area to drill 2 holes. If not I would weld on the bracket with a mig welder, should be fairly easy. Anyway, I had no problem with my 2 conversions, just make sure you have all the factory parts and it goes fairly smooth.

Another option is to go with a hydraulic setup. More expensive but it can be done pretty easily, I have done a bunch of conversions. I have welded the bracket, not really bad at all. Bolt on are an easy way to do it and I have done a few hyd ones also. More work and more $$$ than the Z bar. The pedals are just time consuming and not a lot of room to work. Also putting in the clutch switch is real tight also.
