Just found out that the machine shop had to bore my block .060 over. Is that something that is normal or am I going to have problems with it over heating etc...? I have a 350/350 #'s matching that is at the maching shop. I am having the works done to it. Maybe I am just paranoid, but I worry about everything. I was expecting about .030 over. Can someone give me some knowledge on this?
Thanks,
Steve
Over the years I have ran two 60 over without a problem. They only got that way because the previous bore of 4.030 was so out of round that they don't clean up at .040 over so they have to go .060. It's not a big deal in 4 bolt 397010 blocks because they are stronger. On my race engine I had it sonic tested for thickness. It checked out OK but I half filled the water jackets with epoxy for additional strength.
Just have a good balance job done and run a combo of distilled water/anti freeze and never give it another thought. My old 336 tunnel ram motor has been running for 15 years with a .060 over in a street rod 53 tubbed pickup.
My block is .060 over and I have had no problems. The machine shop said my block is a 010 block which has a high nickle content and makes it a strong block.
Thanks guys, the machinist told me the same thing. He said that he bored them 60 over every day. It's good to get reassurance from you vette pros!
Neil, I thought about it, but decided not to. My engine is pretty strong the way it was. I figure by the time I get done with it, it will be a little stronger. :yesnod:
