Default Engine GURU's ....a Question ?

On another post a feller was askin about getting more HP out of his L-48 ....
I was thinking replace the 1.5 ratio stock rocker arms with 1.7 Roller Rockers ???
What are the stock cam specs on a '76 L-48 ??? ...what would this come out to by just changing over to 1.7's ???

I dont think a 1.7 is available without machine work. There are 1.65, 1.6, 1.55, 1.52 and 1.5 rockers that bolt on. You must be careful as this increases the load on everything and can possibly cause instability with the valve train by just swapping in the biggest ratio possible. They generally dont gain a bunch of power, but can be used to optimize the combination by playing with different ratios on the intake and the exhaust. It really points to the inadequacy of the cam though.

P.S. Answering this question does not make me a guru......

No but I agree with you and so does Red at Comp Cams who is a guru, forget the 1.7's if you want more lift 1.6 max or get a bigger cam

I believe he said something like, you have a street roller cam designed to work and live on the street with lower spring pressures, now you want to put on 1.7 rockers and basically defeat the purpose of the design of the cam because you will need different springs and spring pressures, putting more stress on everything, he told me to forget about it.

If you are thinking about putting 1.7 rockers on a stock L48, well...don't
