Unless you have stainless steel headers. Just say NO. Because they wouldn't even refund the price of the wrap when they melted my Headman headers. :boxing
Mine have been wrapped for at least that long and they still look great. I have not noticed any overheating problems. The wrap goes on better if it is soaked in water first. It is less brittle and alot more plyable.
It certainly reduced underhood temperatures but doesn't look as good as coatings.
If you can afford the coating I would go that route.
My headers after 8 or 10 years with wraps.
I certainly don't drive the hours or as hard as George. I put about 1000miles a year around town and have never driven for hours on the expressways so they just might melt down with hard use.

Re: Thermo-Tec Header Wrap???? (norvalwilhelm)
You sade the underhood temp went down with the wrap, did your coolent temp also go down? I put a 180 degree thermostat in mine and it runs at around 200-210 all the time and I would like to know if the wrap would help with this.
Norval - The only reason I can think of for yours lasting is how you drive. I imagine that your never at WOT for more than a second or two. So You never build up heat. Your motor is always just loafing along.
Have you ever seen a race motor on a long dyno run? The pipes glow orange all the way to the collectors. Well I was on and off the gas at 7000+ rpm and the primary pipes melted and blew apart. I had 4 inch peices of the primary pipes missing. Now I just added it up. My headers are fine for a year without changes. Racing every other weekend for 7 months out of the year and I put on Thermo-Tec wrap and the second lap my pipes blow apart. I was pissed.
If you call the company - and it's because of people like me that wanted to kill them. They will outright state that they are not recommended for mild steel headers.
Is it true, what they say about the underhood temperatures? Will lowering these temperatures provide for any real gain, or is it mostly psychological? I'm on the fence as far as running these goes. I don't race or beat the **** out my car, so I'm not too concerned about melting anything (save for the occasional ice cream cone or milk shake I might snack on during a nice warm day).
I agree George. I never am at WOT for more then a few seconds. They probably would melt down if I did drive like you.
Superfast80
It is a 460 with a great set of heads, full roller, 8-71 blower running 12 lbs of boost, 2 850 double pumpers and the knowledge of how to set it up to run great. On a computer dyno it puts out 940HP. It now runs through a Tremec TKO to 4.11 gears.
This is not a typo. I said 940 desk top dyno horsepower. Other then money and steve I don't believe anyone on this C3 forum has more and I have been running around with this last summer. Before that I have 843 HP which I had for years. The nitrous motor was alot harder to drive then this present blown motor but the old one hooked alot better with the 400 and slicks. I tried the blown motor with a 700-R4 and slicks and took out 3 of them and 4 torque convertors in one summer. The stick is alot more fun to drive but too difficult to get off the line.
I have run a 10.28 in street trim with a old nitrous motor.
