I have two different rear quarter trim panels in my early 1968 vert. One is hard black plastic, the other appears to be vinyl or leather(?) with some kind of padding under it. The vinyl padded piece has Pilot Job stamped on the back so I suspect it is original to the car. The shift console is also covered with the vinyl padded material.
So, do I have a cheap hard plastic reproduction quarter trim panel? Did the car have a leather interior? The trim plate was changed by someone before me to match the new color they painted it, so I can't go by that and I don't have a build sheet.

The rear quarter panels on my May 1968 , 68 C3 have a plastic substrate and are vinyl covered. I've had to replace the factory originals with repro parts. The repro parts look good, and after a struggle, actually fitted in.
68s are weird animals. There were many running changes and many pilot type parts. It is not unusual to see these soft covered panels in 68s up into the 3-4000 serial number range, especially with certain color interiors. You see the bright blue pilot job coverings often in the higher serial numbers, but typically black interiors had the hard quarter trims. Black was the first to change.
