Default Wheels- Still undecided????

Have been offered at a good price a set of 1986 C4 Alloys. Any issues with these wheels on a 1976 C3??? I understand fitment of spacers (2 inch??) are required?? Could senior members chime in as to the pros and cons??? The wheels in question are the ones that polish up like a mirror unlike the earlier ones. They have the (jmm) symbol??? They are 16inch X 8 1/2 inch. Would appreciate some feedback????
Regards

Default Wheels

It is your car to do as you like, and the C-4 wheels would look pretty good, but if it was me I would go with 17" or 18" wheels if you are going to the trouble and expense to change them. I put 17"x9" wheels on my 80 and everyone thinks they look good. Not to much wheel to detract from cars original look, but enough difference in low profile tire to greatly improve handling. I used tire size 275/40/17 on Year One snowflake wheels (Trans Am style) and the wheels have a 5" backspacing. The original 80 C-3 center cap fits these wheels. And no adapter or spacer needed. Good luck, let us know what you decide on.

You will be limited in 16" tire choices and I believe they are more expensive too which may offset any good deal you get on those wheels.

16" tires are cheaper than 17" (some times not by much, but sometimes by quite a bit) and there are alot of choices for 245 width tires that would fit on those rims nicely. I run a 16X8.5" wheel on my 98 camaro durring the winter. A 245/50/16 works really well on that rim size. There are 17 different choices at Tire Rack.

I think the 2.25" adapters would work better. That would give you a 4" backspace like stock is. See the other thread marked "wheel measurements???" for a clarification on that.

I too would also go with 17" wheels. As far as price goes you can find 17" tires in sizes that will fit a C3 (anywhere from 245 to 275) in the $100.00 range. So price should not be the issue. Adapters cost the same reguardless if they are behind 16" wheels or 17" wheels. There are lots of "take off" C4 17" wheels around or you can buy new reproduction wheels at very reasonable prices. For that matter you can probably find 17" wheels that will fit a C3 for near the same price as C4 wheels and adapters. If you want to go that route. With that said it's your car and your taste so buy what you like not what we say. The only person that needs to be happy with the car is you.
