I picked up a c4b intake and was wondering if it was a direct bolt on. I know it will fit on top of my l-48 but what about the other things distributer clearance issues, alternator mounting, thermostat and radiator hose placement... all things that may come up
Also I have collected a set of zz4 heads and a 280h comp cam add this intake for a good combo? Looking for 300-350 hp
Another blast from the past! The Edelbrock C4B intake (as with all Gen I SBC intakes) will fit both the early small journal and the later big journal blocks. There is no problem with the distributor mounting surfaces nor the front water passage connector. The only modifications that you will have to make is elongating the four center intake manifold holes to allow them to mate with the ZZ4 heads whose center bolts are angled at 72 degrees rather than the previous 90 degrees used from '55 - '86.
For the power range you quoted, I would prefer the current Edelbrock performer manifold with its smaller, improved runner design. However, the C4B will work with the parts you specified. Good luck with your project.
The main issue to watch for is old manifolds being seriously cut for decked blocks/heads. Take a very, very close look at the angle and fit of the intake on bare heads.
Otherwise...a newer intake will virtually always deliver more power and driveability. Vintage is cool, though
