are all saginaw 4 spds the same length? does a 4 spd car have slip in the driveshaft?
Long Story;
I pulled my engine and trans (L48, saginaw 4spd) I sent the trans out to be rebuilt. upon its return to me the car delivering it got creamed and went to the towing impound where the trans was promptly stolen from the trunk. The guy picked me up another one and built it for me but I have no idea what it is from. I dropped it back in the car a couple weeks ago. It all dropped in smooth, all of the mounts lined up, but the yoke on the trans is hitting the shifter bracket, and the driveshaft looks to be about an inch and a half too short... It looks like it has no slip to it, but that doesnt seem logical, but it is hard to see up in there and it could have just been siezed up. I am 100 miles from the car right now trying to figure this out and did not study it to hard as it was freezing when I discovered it.
yes it was a saginaw I gave him for sure... I was already disapointed when I pulled it, but a rebuild for $250 seemed better than a muncie for $1500
If the drive shaft has slip I can make it work but I would rather get a proper trans than modify my driveshaft... I spend way to much on custom driveshafts in my truck as it is
Was this the original trannie? My "Corvette by the Numbers" book shows no Saginaw 4 speed in the Vette. If it came from your 78', book shows only a BW ST-10.
The book gives overall dimensions as follows:
Muncie 21-1/2"
BW Super T-10 22-1/4"
