I want to install a new exhaust system in my 77 anybody have any recomendations, something that will improve performance?
What is the difference between 2.5 inch and 3 inch performance wise? I have heard 2.5 inch is better but why?

Three inch pipes will have less backpressure than 2.5 inch pipes, but given a reasonably stock '77 engine you're not going to be able to stuff enough exhaust mass into the exhaust to be able to measure much pressure difference.
The 2.5 inch setup will be less expensive and easier to install.
I love my chambered exhaust. They 2.5 inches and true 2.5 all the way through even the resonators, Sound like side pipes. True duals, no cats.
I like the under car chambered system as well, nice fit under the car and great sound, if you like a good rumble. They are also alot cheaper than side pipe conversion and no burnt legs,
I have the Magnaflow system from Corvette Central on my 71 small block.
It has a deep rumble at idle, but is just a little louder than stock at freeway speeds.. No droning.. I like the sound.. It fits perfect and the best part is that it was under $350 for the entire system.
Really open question. i went with hooker procomp headers(ceramic). 3inch pipe, a magnaflow X and borla xr-1 cans. now i sound really cool driving around town with only one arm and one leg. . almost everyone will have different opinions on this. with all the test on backpressure with pipe sizeand chambered vs open. not to mention sound.
