I went to a place to get a four wheel alignment today. Bad news. I have had those custom hardened $550 yokes from mid America in for 12-14 years now with the eaton posi unit. The Tech showed me by lifting the rear tires he could get the yokes to move in and out like a 1/2 inch on each side.
GT1999 or one of you rear end guys are my custom yokes gone? I am not mechanical enough to attack this myself.
Do you know if the C clips were installed when the axles were put in? If they have come off then that will allow the movement, or so I have read from the "diff-experts" here.
Yes, but you will likely need to contact him via his email that can be found on here in other threads. I don't want to spread rumors or spread misinformation so I wont elaborate.
If the C clips were never installed on the axle shafts then that movement would be expected. It has been known to be done that way on purpose because of the wear the axles get and people not wanting the clips to fall off and ruin the rear end.
What you need to worry about is the axles moving inwards so far that the dust shields contact the case and ruin it. Also, if the suspension moves enough to allow the axle to move out .5" then I don't know what that says about the bushings or alignment. I am no expert so don't take this as gospel.
