Default 4-speed lub

Need to change the lub in my 80 Vette. The shop manual says to use a 80-90 wt gear lube. Is the 4-speed trans. lube the same as the rear end differential lube? Have a friend that sells Amzoil snythetic 75-90 wt. oil as listed in there tech specs for my car. Will synthetic oil ruin the rubber seals or should I stay with petro products? What product would you use in your car and where is it sold? Thanks for the interest.

i used redline gear oil in my old t-10. they offer it in both the weight your manual recommends and their own "MTL" (manual transmission lube). per their recommendations, i used MTL.
and no, they are not the same lube.

For the rear end I am using AMSOIL Severe Gear oil, and for the transmission I just used Castrol High Performance gear oil.

I used valvoline synthetic gear lube (off the shelf at Advance auto) in my tranny. I went to an oil distributer (circle oil in South Bend, IN) and got the rear end lube with the posi additive in it. I forget what brand it was.
