Default 10:1 ratio

Can a 10:1 ratio be achieved with a 1975 L48 engine without changing the heads.

Change the pistons? Don't know if you could shave the heads that much.

Flat top pistons and steel shim head gasket will get you close, but you still have L48 heads

Only by a piston swap. If you were to measure everything the actual static ratio comes closer to 8:1 instead of the 8.5. You would have to angle mill the head (really not something you should consider) and deck the block using the stock parts to get close to 10:1.

With iron heads you'd also risk "pinging" at that CR without CAREFUL timing adjustment and that is with hi-octane SuperUNL gas....may even need to run some Octane boost just to be safe.
