Hello Fellow Vetteheads, I'am going to replace my tires and would like some input as to what the present popular tire is out there, and what is the largest size tire that I can put on my 76 without causing turn rub issues.
Thank You
P225/70R15 is the factory authorized tire for your car...no optional sizes. That doesn't mean a larger tire can't be fitted without clearance issues, as many have done so. Just as many have had clearance issues, so it seems to be a car by car thing whether problems will occur.
It wasn't until the '78 model year that GM started putting 60-series tires on a Vette...after some body panel modifications were made.
As far as the most popular tire to use...that's a real can of worms. We all have our favorites. From personal experience, I'm partial to the BFG T/A and Cooper Cobra. Others have written good reviews of Firestones, Dunlops and a few others. It comes down to what you like out of a tire, and the cost/benefit ratio to get what you want.

I run Firehawk Indy 500s on my 73 P245 / 70 / R15 no fitment issues and I really like these tires. They are some of the highest rate tires of this size on Tirerack.com
