Default Another 2004R shifting/lockup question?

The local shop that "built" my 2004R set it up to use a manual lockup switch, to be mounted in the cabin.

I have decided that I want it to automatically lockup in 4th only.

I installed the GM brake light/cruise control pedal switch that automatically provides a lockup signal continuously, but interrupts that signal when brakes are applied. It works perfectly, but the trans is wired to lockup in 3rd AND/OR 4th gears. So NOW, I get lockup in 3rd, which with a 3.08 rear, results in way too low rpm...

The BTO website shows clearly how to wire it up internally so it only locks in 4th. Their kit provides a new solenoid and a new 4th gear pressure switch, but gives no part numbers. Their kit is $95!!

http://www.700r4.com/tech/tcc/intern...ll/2004r.shtml

Can any 2004R guys tell me what "solenoid" and "pressure switch" they are using so I can source the parts locally, and I will ONLY have the trans lockup in 4th, and NOT 3rd???

Since today is Sunday, neither the trans shop nor BTO is available to answer my questions...

Thanks!

I can't answer your question as to part numbers but if you truly want it to be hands free then try to find the B&M controller. I have one on mine and it works great.
The converter only locks when the car is going faster then the set speed, adjustable **** lets you set the speed you desire. Once you slow down it will unlock the converter so you don't have to wait for the trans to downshift.

I located the sending unit at the trans. A short cable attaches to the speedo gear to the backside of the sending unit. The current speedo cable attaches to the front of the unit. It comes with a very long set of wires that I ran along the speedo cable with wire ties into the cabin. The wires from the sending unit plug into the controller.
Inside the cabin I then disconnected the “switched” 12volt supply wire from the brake switch and attached it to the controller and added a good ground. Then I attached the yellow wire from the controller to the brake switch where the switched 12volt wire was. The other terminal from the brake switch was already attached to the trans so I did not have to do any more.
With this setup it does not matter what gear you are in because it will not lock the converter unless you are above the set speed.
I have mine lock around 40mph.

So Brian,

You didnt run the long yellow wire with the tranny "plug" down to the tranny?? I have a one-wire solenoid, not the stock 2004R 4-pin solenoid plug, which is currently simply wired to the brake light switch. As you described, it would be easy enough just to tap into that wire under the dash...

Am I understanding this??

Thanks,
Rob
