Hey Rob, if you get it driving....bring it over to Mike Dyers tomorrow during the day....I am coming up to Mikes to pick up my IRS stuff around lunch time, I'll probably hang out a couple hours....
Hey thanks, for listening/looking...
Gotta love digital technology...
I need to get a nice drop base air cleaner set up. My old one is like maybe 1 inch. Not sure if that will be low enough for me to put on a 3 inch x 14 inch filter to fit under the L88 hood.
Thanks,

I would like to but I think that might be a little early. I will not probably be able to mess with it again till the weekend. I actually talked to Mike (tracdogg) today and he gave me some tips on the idle mixture screw adjustments.
He is also on the far side of town from me. I was over in his area last week getting my R4 AC hose/pipe cut and re-welded so it would not stick up so high. It was bumping the bottom of the hood. Mike had recommended that place to me. They can do anything with pipe and hoses, fittings, connections, etc.
Engine should be a bunch of fun on the street. I bought one of the crate 3/4 engines back in 1973 for the grand sum of $918 put it in my 66 coupe complete with the .600 cam . It replaced a L-88 that I had put in a year earlier. I had someone who wanted the L-88 and sold it with cash to spare for the LS-7. Car was a street/SCCA regional A production car at that time. Back then Sunoco 260 was easily available so the 12.5-1 compression was no problem. It was a bear on the street. No low end but would pull like nothing else above 3000. I pulled it out when I discoved that I could no longer run the car in SCCA A production with the 454. It would have put me in A/SR which was old Can Am car territory !!! It ended up in an 1969 IMSA styled street car. This was back in 1976. For todays gas I would go to 10-1 and either a roller solid or hydraulic cam depending on how you intend to use the car. -------------------------- Ken McCorry

Trip, The LS7 original heads end in 990. Check out the first page of this forum I have the description/stamp codes listed. I do not think 291 are it. They might be from another block. See what the date code stamps are on the heads.
Thanks to everyone for looking/feedback.
A few updates:
I can finally shut my hood all the way thanks to the correct drop base air cleaner assembly. Getting the hood to fit was another story.
arjothm , rajsid, and a few others with BB L88 hoods were using these with success. The standard drop base which is about 1.5 inch which is all could find locally did not work.
I am now using LT1/L88 drop base from the vendors. It drops it at least a good 2 + inches. I had heard rumors that many of the deep drop bases from s*mmit seemed to be falsely advertised and were not as low as described. I have plenty of room according to the playdoh test now.
Been jacking with the carb to get it tuned right. I think I am close, but will probably need smaller power valves, do not think the 6.5 is going to cut it based on my vaccumm readings.
Here are a few pics, once again the lighting has failed me. Need to take these during the day time. The shiny stuff is already in need of a cleaning. Sure gets dusty under the hood.

Here are a few phone pics. Yes, I know the lighting.
I took her out for our first drink together. She drank about 22 gallons and there was at least 2 gal in her before we got there. Cost me damn near $65....
Based on my un-reliable gas gauge, I think I am getting around 10-11 mpg in the city.

A small suggestion, I have had bad luck with oil filled canister style coils overheating when mounted sideways like yours. We use E-core style coils or mount them vertically.

Mr Force, Roger that..... I already changed it. I had heard that just recently, but I was in such a hurry to get it installed and running, I forgot. MSD also confirmed it. No biggie. Thanks.
Thanks for all the comments... still work in progress as I keep saying.
