Default Correct Radiator Cap 1971 454?

I have a 1971 454 LS5 with Air Conditioning. My original Corvette owners manual says the radiator cap is an RC25. Yet, I've always found that most people say it should be a RC15.

Anyone know for sure what should be on my car?

My '72 LS-5 with A/C has an original RC-15.

From what I understand, the RC-26 replaced the RC-15, I just don't know when.

They are both 15 psi caps.

According to my 1970-1972 NCRS technical manual, 1971 454 cars with air conditioning came with a copper radiator and a brass expansion tank.
Both of these units should be fitted with a RC-15 cap on them.An aluminum expansion tank that came on 1971 base motor cars, ZR1 cars, LS5 with out A/C, LS6 cars, and ZR2 cars had the RC-26 caps on them. Both the RC-15 and the RC-26 caps were rated to hold 15 pounds of pressure
Hope this helps

Roy

Thanks everyone. The interesting thing is that my owners manual says RC25. I do have the copper rad with the brass overflow tank. The overflow tank is the only place for a rad cap as the radiator has the nipple for the hose that goes to the overflow tank.

Maybe the owners manual has a typo and that it should have been rc26.

I think it is a typo but it's the 2 that should have been a 1.

I have a RC15 cap that has small ears. Other RC15 caps have big ears. Can anyone tell me why? Was the original cap that came on the a big ear type RC15 and later did AC Delco change to small ears? Or did it come with the small ear cap and later changed to big ears?
