I recieved the o-ring calipers to replace the lip-seal calipers (which were shipped wrong and the only way I knew was that the rt. rear leaked) today
and upon trying to put the rt. rear on could not get the front bolt on and noticed the the inner half of the caliper was protruding a 1/4" past the outer half and because of this it was hitting the disc shield and I had to grind 1/4"
off my shield to get the holes to align properly, I also noticed that the casting where the bleeder screws go was chipped off in a few places( nice quality control) now on to the rt. front I was having trouble getting the hose to screw into the caliper and noticed that the threads had not been chased with a tap and were in really poor shape ( again nice quality control) anyway I get the whole system on and take a test ride and notice that now the car is pulling to the right under braking, I rebled all the calipers 4 more times and still have the same problem, I am really at the end of my rope with this company but I am reallly tired of changing calipers out too , I am thinking of putting the two front lip seal calipers on the front since they didnt leak and also didnt cause the car to pull to the right and leave the o-rings on the back and send the rest back to Vette Brakes. I know I should demand another set of o-rings but I'm too tired of dealing with this and frankly dont have any more time to experiment with thier products until I find one that works!
What would you guys do ?
I called V.B. and they said I have to heat the o-rings up to get them to unstick themselves, I dont think this is true because the lip-seal ones worked good right out of the box, I think something is wrong again with one of the front calipers!
Re: Even More problems with Vette brakes calipers! (spokewrench)
When I put VB calipers on my car (years ago) I had a problem with the same issues - where the line attached to the caliper - the threads inside were nearly stripped - just painted over with thier silver paint - needles to say it leaked like a sieve - However they replaced it immediately even bfore I sent theirs back to them.
It is sad that they are having such problems with their Quality control, but you just cant inspect quality into a product - it only comes from those creating the product - they must have had some turn over in the assembly line since they built mine.
Give 'em a call - dont settle for less than you expect. Call them and raise hell - asking that someone (a line forman or manager prefereably) personally inspect the calipers they send to you, and that you speak to this person. That way - if they fail - .....well lets not go there.
Re: Even More problems with Vette brakes calipers! (spokewrench)
I feel your pain bro. Went thru some-what the same problems with Vette Brakes. Ordered the more expensive o-ring calipers. Front right- the threads were so dirty couldn't thread in the hose. Had a nice paint job on top of the crud thou. Sent unit back and waited for another, in the mean time most of my fluid leaked to the floor.
Chapter 2-- Order 4 Bilstein shocks. Noticed the boxes the shocks were in had been cut open and re-taped. Looked OK but when installing front shocks found they had sent wrong grommets. As per picture in catalog I had the Xtreme bushings for a newer corvette. Could not center shock thru chassis when tighting, would always rub on one side. Anyway they sent me some poly grommets that still don't center shaft correctley but I'm so tired of dealing with them I ground them down so they halfway center. All this took about 1 1/2 months just to install brakes and shocks.
Getting nailed twice is enough for me. I would have to be hurting real bad to do it again. :cry :cry :cry
Re: Even More problems with Vette brakes calipers! (spokewrench)
I have three leaky calipers and was considering VB calipers. But it sounds as though a few of you are having problems w/ quality rigth now. The Wilwood caliper, more expensive, may be a better option. I would rather pay a little more if it means doing it once and not dealing w/ a bunch of BS. Also, the Wilwoods are lighter.

Don't laugh but...
Autozone, cheap, lifetime nationwide warranty, fast service... I used them for the alternator on an MGB; being designed by Lucas (Lord of Darkness), I replaced it 3 times before I sold that car. They were very cool about it.
I put calipers from them on the back of my '72 and they worked great. Good fit, no leaks... :bb

I have dealt with Muskegon for the past 10-12 years and never had a problem either with their products, price, or personnel.
You would think that after the first problem you had they would have been extra sure the replacements were right , guess not.

I just put the O-ring pistons in my calipers in the front and rear. I have noticed that the thing pulles to the right every once in a while. But after I drive it for awhile it's like it does and doesn't pull. . Anyway, I kept my own calipers becuase I've heard pretty bad things about the remanufactured ones.

Yeah, I did the same. When I bought my Vette, it had a bad right front caliper. $60 exchange and an hour later, I had good brakes again. It looked identical to the one I pulled off too...even down to the Morain casting. Autoworks was the supplier. Good luck!

Ditto here with Muskegon. No leaks, and good service. I recomend them to all and will use them in the future
