I've got my new calipers, to replace the ones I took off years ago before I parked my '70 coupe. But, my aging memory fails me. I have two with single bleeder screws, and two with double bleeder screws. Which ones are for the front, and which ones go in back?
Also, I noticed that the pads all have a thin metallic plate on the back side of the pad, but four of them have small hook/clips on the top edge. I'm assuming these are for the inside or outside, versus front or back; does anyone know how they go?
Single bleeders go to front with bleeders on top pointing to center of car. Double bleeders on back, bleeders pointing up. The pads with clips go on outside on each caliper. They are wear indicators that rub rotors when pads get worn making a squeaking noise. mds...
Be aware that the 'bleeders' on the lower part of the rear calipers aren't really meant for bleeding brakes. The rear caliper halves are reversible so the lower hole on the caliper should have a plug in it rather than a bleeder. Most rebuilders stick a bleeder in the lower hole because it fits but don't use it for bleeding the rear brakes. Air rises so opening the lower bleeder fitting won't accomplish anything.
thanks guys, now all I need is some warm sunny weather and I'll be set. I looked at the calipers again (got 'em from Duntov) and the fronts have the single bleeder, while the back have two bleeders and the plug. Without going out and putting them in place to see, I'm betting the plug goes at the bottom, with the bleeders at the top, inside and outside. Thanks again!
On a side note.....buy a Motive power bleeder (or something similar)....just re-did my brakes last weekend.....bleeding them to a perfect firm pedal was soooooooooooooooo easy....I love that tool !
