Hi, All of my calipers were leaking, so I got the Vette Brakes o ring calipers, new ss lines, and rubber hoses. I had replaced the master about one month ago. Checked run out on rotors all ok. Installed the calipers, lines and hoses. After I bled the system I couldn't get a hard pedal and it goes way too close to the floor. I then bought and installed a new proportioning valve. I also checked the adjustable rod for the master, it is set right. I have even installed the old master cylinder and it is still the same. I took the car out on gravel, and when I hit the brakes hard, only the front will lock up. Does anyone have any idea what I missed? Thank you, Mike
I know you bled them, but it sounds like you have air in the lines. Are you sure all connections are tight and the fittings are seated? If not they will suck in air. I had that problem when I redid my calippers and lines. I ended up tightening the heck out of all the hose to line connectioins and working them in and out until they seated correctly. (advice I got here on the forum).
Bleed in the correct order (Left Rear, RR, LF, RF)?
or,
LR inner then outer, RR inner then outer, LF, RF?
Check all of the connections for leaks?
Make sure the MC never got too low during bleeding?
Bleed, Bleed, and Bleed again?
I guess I was lucky with mine, I bled each caliper for probably no more than 10 pumping sessions and I was done.
Some people like using a bleeding pump, but most seem to like the gravity method. It sounds like gravity, followed by pumping may be the most successful.
I hope you can get a firm pedal. I think our brakes are really good when they're working the way they're supposed to.
Yes I did bench bleed the mc and I did not let it run dry. I used gravity and a bleeder I made with a plate, regulator and my air compressor. I didn't think about having a small leak on a fitting, I'll check it out in the morning, Thank you.
