Default flexplate questions

I have the 168 tooth ,14" plate to the th350. When it was bolted up to the torque convertor it started to bend towards the TC when tightening the bolts. When I pulled the access pan off I noticed that it dosn't rotate flat when rotating. Is this normal or should it be flat when spinning? Would this bend place it out of balance?

The way I read what you said there, I wold pull all the 3 bolts holding converter to the flexplate and see that the converter spins freely, if not, it was not seated all the way,and if forced that converter will tear up the front pump....so you need to check that first...

check all the studs on the converter for being at the same depth, so the flex plate is not pulled out of line....

IF you are taling on the flex plate not being concentric, well that is another issue...bad flexplate...

Ditto what mrvette said. Bad news if the convertor is not properly indexed in the pump. Its possible to damage the flexplate when attempting to bolt it up this way. Unbolt the convertor and make sure its indexed to the pump. Then push it back and check flexplate runout with convertor unhooked. If runout is excessive you need a new flexplate. I once had a bad convertor that caused a vibration too.

I just bought a new flex plate for my 75 through Advanced Auto and to my surprise it was only $15.00 new with no exchange. I think that sounds cheap but who am I to argue. :D :D
