I want to take out the AC system to free up some Hp and
clean up the engine bay. My question is, is there any way I
can pump down the freon, or do I have to take it to a shop
to have them capture the freon? Is it not harmful to me and
the environment to let the freon out into the atmosphere, I am
trying to be reasonable.

Thanks,

cow farts seem to harm the enviroment more then freon, I wouldnt worry about it. Unless you really buy into the farce of global warming. as far as harm to you, nope unless your in a confined space when it vents out.
If you decide to dump it yourself, do it slowly- the oil suspended in the freon is (a). REALLY hard on paint, and (b), unbelieveably slick on a concrete floor.
So this is not a big deal. I was aways lead to believe that there
were so big issues about the effects of Freon in the atmosphere.
Didn't AL Gore speak about this?
I am mostly concerned with any health risk for me or my family.
Someone took mine off before I purchased mine. Being in Texas it is my plans to add one back. If you need someone to take it off your hands mine could use a donor.
