Glad to read you are on the right track. But in a way I do agree that a factory Big Block car numbers matching is too expensive to do a bunch of mods to.
Now if you can find a Big Block car that is not matching then you can run with it a bit. Even better is to find a SB car that is not numbers matching and change it over to a Big Block as that is what I am doing with my 73.
I agree with this completely. The high $ a numbers matching big block commands can only be preserved by keeping it NCRS correct, and I'd be afraid to drive it very hard or park it in the open considering it may soon be approaching the value of my house.
A non numbers matching small block bought well gives you carte blanche to do as you please.

I have a 68 small block and a 68 big block.......the small block and the garage are very close friends....the big block hates the garage. Then again the SB is the wifes car and the BB is mine....
I have nothing against small blocks, but if you can afford it, go BIG.
It's not that they are mechanically better, more reliable, better on gas, cheaper to fix, but....it's a big block!!!

WTF???? What's the point of having a bigblock Corvette if you're going to drive it like a Prius? My '69 is numbers matching, and it spends more time on the track than on the street. Seems silly to have money tied up in a Corvette just to make it a garage queen that gets willed to your next of kin.
I honestly can't understand this drive it slow, garage queen mentality.

That's my point exactly.
Now if you feel comfortable doing that with such a car, then drive it like you stole it. You should be able to enjoy it.
However, I personally would be loathe to damage a high dollar car. Because of this, I can have more fun with a lower end but still highly modifiable vette. Lots of ways to do it.

It's a sports car! That's what its purpose of existence is.
If you're going to spend a lot of money and end up driving slow all the time, buy a fully optioned front wheel drive luxury boat. The ride will be a lot more comfortable, no one will think you bought the car to compensate for shortcomings elsewhere, and the lower demand for the high perf Corvettes will drop the prices for those of us who drive them like they were intended to be driven.
