Default 77 tire question

What is the widest tire that will fit on the rear wheels without extending beyond the body? I have just installed rebuilt stock trailing arms and I want to keep my stock aluminum wheels.

The last tires I installed were 225's. I remember at the time they were installed (15+ years ago) I was told that was the widest that would fit without rubbing in the front. I have seen on the forum that P60 255 R15 is standard, but what is widest?

This should be simple but I have not seen it in my searches.

255/60 15.

Some run 235/60 & 245/60 15s in front.

CORRECT. Note however, that a 235/60 is actually too small a tire unless the car is lowered. It wont' fill the wheel well.

So, the 255/60 15 is the widest in the back? What is the widest in the front for a 77.

I have seen some C3 post that say 255 all the way around but I remember (15+ years ago) that there were issues with rubbing in the front.

my stock 82 has 255 BFGs all 4 corners. No Rubbing at all with stock alum. mags.

I have a 77 and I have 235/60's in the front and 255/60's in the rear. Works great for me. I could see putting a 245/60 up front as well.

Due to the build of these cars each is different. One 77 will run 255's with no problems whilst others will rub....thats just the way it is.

Why not get some 255's for the rear, put them up front and see what happens. If no probs, get another 2. If they rub, go smaller.

Both front & back. 255/60/15 were optional in 78 & there was some minor trim done on the front fenders. You have to check to see if you have any rubbing.
