Looking through my Ecklers catalog today, and I found some stuff I might get. How well would an Edelbrock Performer Intake and an Edelbrock 600cfm carb boost the power on my dad's stock 80 L48?
I used the same set up when I did the rebuild but I also included the cam headers and some ignition upgrades and now I have great power compared to the stock engine
Oh yes did I mention that there is no longer any smog crap on it anymore
:D :yesnod: :reddevil :yesnod: :D
My opinion is only a slight boost if that is all you do. I think a free flowing exhaust (true duals and headers) and a mild cam would do a lot better for the buck.
Well we are in an area where we don't have to do the smog testing so we can pull all the stuff off of ours. We are planning a mild cam, headers, and borla exhaust later down the road.
Quick question -- why would you get an edelbrock 600 CFM when the stock Q-jet flows 750? I would think you could send your carb to Lars and have him give it a tuneup for less than a new carb.
I think the performer intake is a good foundation if you're ever going to build up the engine (I have a performer on mine).
Also, think about getting a set of 1.6 ratio rockers if you don't have the $$ or time for a full cam. I got a set of Comp Cams roller-tipped 1.6 rockers pretty cheap and they fit under the stock valve covers. Definitely noticed an improvement there, too!
