Default 81 question/problem

ive got an 81 all stock rebuilt tranny well i went to new mexico and left the car here in texas i hop in it to goto work took 6-7 tries for it to fire up ran for maybe thirty seconds died again after about 15 minutes of dying and restarting it finally caught idle at 500 rpms before it idle'd around 800-1000 anyways i back the car out of the driveway give it gas and it dies anything over 1500 rpm it falls on its face huge drop it power and barely running so my question is this just a clogged catalytic converter or something else?

additional info
car sat for 17 years before i purchased it
odometer reads 22134
replaced cap and rotor 2k miles ago
new plugs
new wires

How long has that gas been in there? Goes bad in just a few months. Also the fuel filter is on the front of the carb at the end of the fuel line. It just unscrews, pull it out and clean it with carb cleaner or replace it don't forget to put the spring back in and if it is a one direction filter take care to put it in right.

That's my guess. Did it run fine before you left?

from what you wrote it sounds like someone has put an inline filter on. rochy also has one at the carb and i would check it.... 2 hours for half a tank sounds good to me. i would be happy with that.

How does the car run when its in Park or Neutral? Can you get it to rev past 1500 rpm then? I agree with the other posters that it may be sometype of fuel delivery problem. Maybe the last time you filled the tank you got some bad gas...

Did you have some "friends" put something into your fuel tank?

Remove the O2 sensor and see if it runs better. If so, then cat is probably plugged. This will set an error and engine will run in open loop when you try this.
