With an ambient temp in the 50's thee is no way that should happen.
Ambient temp is the single biggest factor in cooling.
Make sure your fan clutch is good, check that the hose plumbing is correct for the expansion tank.
600 miles for a complete rebuild or just a cam swap?
Another clue! Just ran the car at idle with the cap off and could see flow in the alum tank however I felt the rad while running and the bottom of the rad is very hot but the top half is actually cold. When I shut it down then entire rad gets hot!
600 miles after complete rebuild with no problems and then 50 miles ago coolant problem started. I changed the cam and checked the heads to be sure but no cracks found.
The top of the rad (hot in) should be 20 to 30° hotter than the bottom (cool out) while running.
Measure the top and bottom necks with the gun held as close as possible.
I don't have a gun right now but the top is literly cold to the touch while the bottom is very hot! When I shut it down in a few minutes the whole rad feels the same temp. Then I restart and within a few minutes of the fan runing the top gets cool again. Of course this is while its idling.
