Default alternator info needed

I have a 71 BB with the stock alternator and external regulator. I want to upgrade to a 110 amp one wire unit, but need some specific information on how to rewire/bypass? the regulator. I am also looking for info/pics on serpentine belt and pulley systems for a BB.

Are you sure you have an external regulator? Chevy started putting the internally regulated alternator in 'vettes in 1969. The regulator looking thing that the alternator runs to on the driverside fenderwell is the horn relay. I upgraded my 61 amp internally regulated alternator to an 90 amp unit from a 87-89 Camaro. I had to swap to my pulley but the parts store did it for me, so I didn't even have to break out my impact wrench.
I think it cost me about $35 or $40 at Autozone.

You are correct, it is the horn relay. My problem is that the 110 amp alternator only has a post for the battery connection and a threaded hole for a ground connection. How should the 2 leads (one terminates on the relay) on the factory harness plastic connector be rerouted?

First of all the mandatory disclaimer! :D I have not done this, but! It looks to me like that there are 2, 10 gauge red wires, a 24 gauge Brown and white wire and a 12 gauge Black wire (ground) on your current setup.
Looking at the wiring diagram it shows the 2, 12 gauge red wires terminating together at the horn relay. The 24 gauge Brown/white wire comes from the same terminal as the red wire (it goes to your volt/amp meter.)
I think that you could hook the single battery wire from your alternator to the horn relay (from there it goes to the battery) then hook you brown/white wire to the same terminal.
Hopefully someone who has installed a single wire alternator will see these posts and give you a difinative answer.

When my 66 alternator went south, I had an alternator/starter shop rebuild it. It was a 37 amp alternator and when I got it back the guy told me he had converted it to a 60 amp in case I ever wanted to add components. No extra cost for the upgrade versus the rebuild.
