Issue with speedometer gears 700R4

Issue with speedometer gears 700R4
Put a 700R4 in my 77 C3 and fixing to put my 3rd set of speedometer gears in it. It continues to eat them up--cables are free, speedo is free, cruise unit turns free-all checked and verified can't see why the problem. Anyone else had any issues with these????? Tail shaft has two holes where the drive gear clip fits in. Looks like the end of the clip goes in the hole nearest the end of the shaft. Clip can be put in either hole. Any trans guys advise me if that is right???

thats strange but it sure seems like you are on the right track. those are plastic gears right? i was lucky enough that mine just hooked up with no issues. it sure sounds like its not seating correctly. i wonder if there are some spacers to use for correct lash? what does BTO say? they seem to have a pretty good tech dept.

Just talked to BTO and they said the clip should go in the hole closest to the main part of the trans. I had put the clip in the hole closest to the tail shaft. They said move it and that should fix it. I hope so it has been another one of those kind of things that will drive you nuts!!
